Know Before You Go

Before diving in, it's crucial to understand the regulations and best practices for lobster hunting. Make sure to obtain the proper licenses and familiarize yourself with size and bag limits and prohibited areas to protect the lobster population and ecosystem.

Read up on the regulations here.

Gear Up Responsibly

Preparation is key for any adventure, and using eco-friendly gear is a no-brainer. Swap out harmful sunscreens for biodegradable, reef-safe alternatives to protect yourself without damaging marine life. Opt for reusable water bottles and containers to reduce plastic waste.

Respect Marine Life

During your lobster hunt, practice responsible and ethical behavior. Handle lobsters carefully to avoid harming them. Leave marine life undisturbed by avoiding touching or damaging coral reefs. Pack out all your trash, including any fishing gear remnants. Trash and abandoned gear (or "ghost gear") can trap animals and destroy habitats. By leaving the environment as pristine as you found it, you allow others to enjoy its beauty too!

If you spot litter in the water, do the right thing and scoop it up—and show off your find by tagging @trash_trophies! This initiative was started by local fishing captain Andrew Hunt to inspire collective efforts towards cleaner oceans. And it's not all just balloons and plastic bags—some remarkable treasures have been found on the water!

After a successful day of lobstering, unwind with an oceanfront dinner at Grassy Flats and savor the fruits of your labor. Get a fresh taste of the Keys at The Rhum House, where we’re offering a special cook-your-catch option just for mini season!
